The Fifth Air Silk Road International Forum Concludes Successfully

On September 5, the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) featured a key industry forum, the Fifth Air Silk Road International Forum (ASRIF), at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The forum, themed “Building a High-Quality Air Silk Road to Serve China’s Modernization,” focused on topics such as the recovery of the civil aviation industry, regional cooperation, smart aviation, and green development.
Over 300 representatives from 180 institutions, including government officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the National Port Administration, and various local governments, as well as diplomats from countries such as the UK, Belarus, Luxembourg, and Afghanistan, attended the event.
Hosted by the China International Economic and Technological Exchange Center, the Beijing Capital International Airport Economic Zone Management Committee, the Chongqing Port and Logistics Office, and the China Ports Association, the forum saw participation from prominent aviation companies, think tanks, and local government leaders. The forum featured discussions on industry trends and insights.
The forum was graced by notable guests, including Vice Mayor of Beijing Gao Peng, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Zheng Xiangdong, President of the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics Lin Zuoming, and former Deputy Administrators of the Civil Aviation Administration of China Dong Zhiyi and Li Jian. Speeches highlighted the advantages of Beijing’s dual hub airports and the strategic importance of port work in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chongqing made its debut with a dedicated session on its role in the dual circulation economic strategy. Speakers discussed the integration of port, industry, and urban development at Jiangbei Airport and the challenges in obtaining time slot resources for international hub construction.
The forum included sessions on the development of the low-altitude economy and green, smart aviation. Discussions covered the importance of general aviation for economic growth, national security, and the challenges in low-altitude airspace management. Experts discussed sustainable pathways for the aviation industry, emphasizing energy efficiency, carbon capture and storage, alternative fuels, and carbon trading.
The digital transformation of the aviation industry was highlighted, with insights into China's advantages in digital distribution and market strategies. The importance of data richness and scenario diversity in exploring new e-commerce models in aviation was underscored.
Several significant projects were signed at the forum, including collaborations between the Capital International Airport Economic Zone Management Committee, Karamay Municipal Government, and other entities. The Air Silk Road International Cooperation Alliance welcomed new members, expanding its network to nearly 50 organizations.
Key publications, including the “2023 ‘Air Silk Road’ Excellent Cases in Services” and the “Research on the Air Silk Road” book, were released, demonstrating global service solutions, technological innovations, and green development initiatives.
The “2023 ‘Air Silk Road’ Excellent Cases in Services” has selected eight exemplary cases across various dimensions, including global services, Chinese solutions, technological innovation, green development, and growth potential. Among these, China Civil Aviation Information Network Corporation was recognized for its innovative service model. Capital Airports Holdings Co.,Ltd. was highlighted as a model of Chinese service practice, and Henan Airport Group was commended for its green development initiatives.
The “Research on the Air Silk Road” was released at the forum. This book is the first specialized monograph focusing on the “Air Silk Road” in China. It was jointly authored by researchers from several institutions, including the Beijing Air Economic Research Institute, Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics, and the Belt and Road Initiative Promotion Center of the National Development and Reform Commission.
The event concluded with the release of the “2023 China Airport Economic Development Index” and the “2023 China Aviation Logistics Hub Development Index Report ,” providing valuable insights into the future of the aviation industry and its role in the Belt and Road Initiative.
